Unravelling and weaving, sometimes simultaneously

Complex

There is a hush
that burrows
under my skin

no matter how many times
I try to make peace
with the silence

it makes me itch

and inside
that hush dances
a tarantella
long-legged
and loathsome

I want to save you

and of course
that is ridiculous

you don’t need it
but
even if you did

I am dog paddling
with just my nose
over the surface

adding you to the ocean
I am drowning in
adding you to the arachnids
crawling within

is a foolish distraction

a way to temporarily contain
the urge to scratch
and keep on scratching
until I sink
under the waves
